Free Fall Activities For Families In Chicago

It seems that summer and winter get all the attention when it comes to family-friendly seasonal activities. While summer is filled with fun at the pool and winter offers snow-filled activities, fall definitely has its very own activities to be enjoyed by the entire family. Take advantage of the many family-friendly activities offered in Chicago without the hefty price of admission. There are some great Chicago fall activities that are free, as long as you know where to look.

Wagner Farm is located on the intersection of Lake Avenue and Wagner Road in the Glenview suburb right outside of Chicago. While there are some activities and shops that require a fee or purchase price, there are many activities that are completely free. Families can come to witness a real farm to get the kids away from city living. The Heritage Center offers free admission and is geared towards children ages three to seven. The Heritage Center has a museum feel to it and emulates what farm life was like in the 1920s.

The Grove is a history and nature location that is filled with trails, perfect for the family looking for an outdoor activity. There is no admission fee and there are plenty of educational activities to be enjoyed by all ages. The Grove Natural Science Classroom has a different theme for each month: October is autumn, November is fossils and dinosaurs and December is fish. There will be games, activities and puzzles geared around that specific theme for each month. This is a great way bring the whole family for an educational and fun activity to enjoy in the outdoors.

The Chicago Park District will be holding a Halloween event at Sauganash Park. There is no price for admission and it is geared towards families with children between the ages of two and 10. The event will be held on October 31 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to wear their costumes. There will be craft activities, games, prizes and music to be enjoyed by the entire family.

The North Park Village Nature Center is free of admission costs or additional fees. This is a 46-acre nature preserve that features trails, wetland and prairies. There is a discovery room that offers activities for children and interactive displays. The Chicago Park District will be holding a free event on October 29 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for families with children between the ages of three and six for the Fall Focus on Nature at NPV event. There will be seasonal craft activities, story time and outdoor walking trails.

Naperville Riverwalk offers free admission to a picturesque outdoor area that features bridges, fountains and beautiful landscaping. Fall is filled with events, whether it's a craft fair or the occasional festival. On October 27, there will be the Halloween Happening event which is free for children 10 years of age and younger. The Dandelion Fountain area is a great place to bring a picnic lunch, enjoy the scenery or bring the family camera for the perfect photo opportunity.
