Blackhawks Won't Re-Sign Niemi, Sign Marty Turco

The Chicago Blackhawks will not resign goalie Antti Niemi. They will instead sign former Dallas Stars goalie Marty Turco. Niemi was awarded $2.75 million in the weekend's arbitration hearing and it was thought that the closer the salary was to $2 million the better chance the Hawks had to resign him.

Marty Turco broke in with the Dallas Stars during the 2000-01 season and has a career 2.31 Goals Against Average, a .911 Save Percentage and 262 career wins. The 22 wins for Turco last year were the fewest of his career since his rookie season, although his .913 save % was his best since the 2003-04 season.
