Navistar to relocate, but will stay in Illinois

Navistar will keep its headquarters in Illinois and is moving forward with plans to expand state operations, the company announced Wednesday. The moves are expected to result in the creation and retention of 3,000 permanent jobs and 400 construction jobs over several years.

Legislation that Gov. Quinn signed into law in June to expand the Economic Development for a Growing Economy tax credit -- that specifically benefits Navistar -- was the company's determining factor to stay in Illinois, according to a release from the governor's office.

Navistar's $205 million investment will help the truck and diesel engine manufacturer relocate its headquarters from Warrenville to Lisle, and assist with upgrades to existing manufacturing and research facilities, the release said. In addition, Navistar will make a significant investment to relocate its parts distribution center from West Chicago to Joliet.

The announcement follows Navistar's decision to terminate initial plans to open headquarters in Lisle after meeting local opposition.  Quinn and Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan stepped in to resolve those issues, the release said, and the reconfigured project is moving forward.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is administering the $64.7 million business investment package, which includes EDGE tax credits and Employer Training Investment Program job training funds that will help enhance Navistar's workforce.
