CTA Renames 'L' Stop For Mayor Washington
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Chicago's first black mayor Harold Washington is getting some new recognition at a CTA L stop.
The CTA board voted Wednesday morning to change the name of the Library-State/Van Buren station to the Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren station on the Brown, Orange, Purple and Pink lines.
Before the change, CTA officials would not discuss the cost of the sign change or when it would take place. The board has heard appeals for the name change during the public comment portion of board meetings.
The Library station opened in June 1997 and was praised for its design.
