Police say the 45-year old taxi driver had responded to a dispatch call for a ride on 57th and Perry in the Englewood neighborhood.
Once there, Officer Laura Kubiak, says two men in their 20s approached and one of them got in the back seat and pulled out a gun. That's when the cabbie tried to close the bullet-proof partition that separates the back from the front seats and the gunman got out of the cab and began shooting into the window.
The cabbie was hit in the neck but drove several blocks to 54th and State where he flagged down a police officer.
The cabbie is reported in serious condition at Stroger Hospital.
