Chicago Marine Killed In Afghanistan
CHICAGO (WBBM) - The US Marine Corps says a Chicago marine has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Marine Corps says 23-year-old Lance Corporal John T. Sparks of Chicago's South Side was killed on Friday by small-arms fire in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
A news release says Sparks enlisted in the Marine Corps in February of 2008 and had been assigned to a division based at Camp Pendleton, California.
The Marine Corps says this was his first combat deployment.
The statement says Lance Corporal Sparks had been awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal, among other recognition.
