Fire Sweeps Through Lakemoor Apartment Building

LAKEMOOR, Ill. (CBS) - Flames tore through an apartment building in northwest suburban Lakemoor overnight.

The third-alarm fire broke out in a multi-unit building at 505 Autumn Blvd. in Lakemoor, according to a Fox Lake firefighter, speaking around 12:15 a.m.

Several apartments were destroyed in the three-story building, and the roof appeared to have collapsed.

All the residents escaped the building safely, but they stood watching helplessly as the intense flames ravaged their homes.

"I grabbed everything, put my clothes on, started running outsde -- and when I came outside, the building next door to me just engulfed in flames," said neighbor Sean Braeckmin. "It looked like 20-foot flames coming off the top of the building."

As of early Friday, investigators were still trying to figure out what sparked the fire. There was no word on exactly how many people were left homeless.
