Man Falls From Crane, Dies On Southwest Side
CHICAGO (STMW) - A man is dead after falling from a crane this past Thursday in the Southwest Side's Garfield Ridge neighborhood.
The man, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Keith Darnell, was in the basket of a crane attempting to hang a steel cable wire about 11 a.m. in the 6400 block of West 51st Street, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
A passing truck "snagged" the wire causing the victim to fall, Alfaro said.
An autopsy performed Saturday determined Darnell, 69, died of multiple injuries from a fall from height, according to the medical examiner's office. His death was ruled an accident.
Darnell was pronounced dead at 6:03 p.m. Thursday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the medical examiner's office.
His home address was not immediately known.
