CHICAGO (STMW) – A 13-year-old boy is dead after being shot in the head Tuesday afternoon in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said.

The boy, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as 13-year-old Isaiah Mendez, was shot about 2:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of West Beach Avenue, police News Affairs Officer, Daniel O’Brien said.  The boy was found with a gunshot wound to the head on a second-floor porch.

Fire crews responded and took the teen to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious to critical condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.

Police said the teen later died, although the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The circumstances regarding the shooting appeared to be “bizarre,” a Shakespeare District lieutenant said.

Police did not know whether the incident was gang-related and did not have a description of the gunman Tuesday night.

Grand Central Area detectives are conducting a death investigation pending the results of an autopsy Wednesday.

Why did the fire crew respond to the scene as oppose to the ambulance? Or did we misread the story above? We Love you Isaiah and we always will keep you in our hearts. We will fight till the end to find out what happened and bring justice so that incidents like this dont happen again. In your loving memory
