CHICAGO (STMW) – Man allegedly struck by falling air conditioner

A man filed suit Friday claiming he was hit by an air conditioning unit that fell from the second floor window of a west suburban building.

Rolando Martinez claims that he was walking June 25, 2009 outside of a building at 1600 N. 1st Ave in Melrose Park when he was struck by an air conditioning unit that fell from a second floor window, according to a suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.

The suit claims Martinez sustained serious bodily injury, incurred medical expenses, experienced pain and suffering, and loss earnings.

The two-count suit seeks more than $80,000 in damages against the owners of the building, Rafael and Reyna Lopez.

That air conditioner looks like it is brand new! How could it have fallen 2 stories and struck that man? Something is wrong with this story.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe it was not installed in the window the right way??????

Hey Bob – that is merely a “stock photo” of an air conditioner. It is NOT the air conditioner in question !!!
