Autistic Teen Missing In Northwest Suburbs

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (STMW) - Police are asking for help in locating a missing northwest suburban teen who suffers from a form of autism told a friend he was driving to New York.

Trenton Johnson of Crystal Lake was last seen at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and was reported missing by his parents on Wednesday, according to Crystal Lake police. He sent a text message to a friend stating that he was en route to New York.

But police found that the teen had been visiting a friend in downstate Nokomis, though he had left the area before local authorities arrived, according to a release from police.

Johnson suffers from Asperger's syndrome, a form of autism, and does not have his medication with him, the release said. He is an avid player of online video games and frequents locations with free Wi-Fi, where he plays on his laptop.

He was last seen wearing a brown baseball cap, black gym shoes, blue jeans and a dark brown bomber jacket with fur collar. He has not shaved in three weeks and has sparse facial hair.

Johnson is driving a maroon 2002 Honda Accord with Illinois plates L323840, which is registered to his parents.
