The Barrington Hills website calls it the village "a unique rural equestrian community…an oasis of another time."
Outdoor lighting apparently is threatening that oasis for some.
The lighting fight has been going on for a couple of years and it could come to a head Monday when the village board could vote on the latest proposal.
Supporters of the proposal say they want to preserve Barrington Hills' country feel, while opponents want the right to put up the kind of security lighting they feel is necessary on lots that are a minimum of five acres.
The proposed ordinance would limit the intensity of allowable outdoor lighting and the hours it could be on.
