Elderly Woman Killed In Elgin Fire

ELGIN, Ill. (CBS) - An elderly woman was killed in a fire in her Elgin home early Friday.

Elgin police identified the woman as Josephine Guerra.

A passerby called for help about 12:30 a.m. to report smoke coming from a house on the 600 block of Prospect Avenue in the far northwest suburb, according to a release from Elgin police.

Firefighters found the 75-year-old woman lying in the kitchen. She was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where she was pronounced dead.

Elgin police and fire departments are investigating the blaze.

Damage is estimated at about $150,000.
