Woman Found Dead In Alley Was Strangled

UPDATED 11/29/10 5:29 a.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) - A woman found dead in an alley Saturday morning on the Northwest Side was strangled.

The woman has been identified as Bozena Staggs, 36. She was dead on the scene in the 3100 block of West Homer Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

A Sunday autopsy determined she died from strangulation and her death was ruled a homicide.

Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said the woman was found lying on the ground in an alley about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

A man walking his dog called police after seeing the body in the alley, Shakespeare District police said.

The woman was found with her pants pulled down to her ankles, although the scene did not initially appear to be violent and no obvious signs of trauma were noted, police said.

Grand Central Area detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
