Gas Leak Reported In Lakeview

CHICAGO (CBS) – Crews were on the scene of a possible gas leak early Friday afternoon in the Lakeview neighborhood.

At 11:30 a.m., a Level 1 Hazardous Materials response was initiated because someone smelled an odor of natural gas at the intersection of Addison Street and Janssen Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.

An hour later, emergency personnel remain on the scene and no one has been hurt.

Evacuations were not necessary, Rosado said.

The site of the gas leak is about four blocks west of Wrigley Field, and half a block west of trendy Southport Avenue.

A People’s Gas spokeswoman did not immediately have information on the incident.

The Sun-Times Media Wire contributed to this report.
