5 Hurt, 3 Children In Lake Shore Drive CTA Bus Crash

Updated 12/8/10 10:42 p.m.

CHICAGO (STMW) - Five people -- including three children -- were hospitalized Wednesday evening from a CTA bus crash on Lake Shore Drive.

The crash involving a CTA bus happened about 6:30 p.m. on Lake Shore Drive near 43rd Street, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said, citing preliminary information.

One other vehicle was involved in the crash with the #6 Jackson Park Express bus, CTA spokeswoman Sheila Gregory said. It wasn't immediately clear how the vehicles collided, but the passenger auto was behind the bus then came forward and collided with the left side of the bus, Gregory said.

Five people were hospitalized from the crash at that location, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Rich Rosado said. Three children were taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital in good condition and two adults were taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center also in good condition.

Twelve people refused medical treatment, Rosado said. Officials couldn't immediately say if the people injured were from the bus or the passenger car.
