Red Line Trains Rerouted After Report Of Smoke
CHICAGO (STMW) - A report of smoke in a Near North Side CTA subway forced trains to operate on the elevated tracks for just over 20 minutes Friday evening.
At 6:38 p.m., someone reported the smell of smoke in the subway at the Red Line Clark/Division station, CTA spokeswoman Kim Myles said. As a precaution Red Line trains were temporarily rerouted to the elevated tracks as the Chicago Fire Dept. investigated.
But by 7 p.m., power was restored after crews secured the area, Myles said.
No one was injured and no smoke was found by firefighters, unconfirmed fire dispatch reports indicated.
