CHICAGO (STMW) – A man found partially submerged in the Chicago River Saturday afternoon on the Northwest Side drowned, a Sunday autopsy determined.

The body of a Hispanic man in his 30s was found in the Chicago River at 5017 N. Drake Ave., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The body remained unidentified Sunday evening.

An autopsy revealed the man drowned, but doctors could not determine if the death was accidental, suicide or homicide.

A civilian spotted the partially submerged body about 2 p.m. Saturday, police said. His torso and parts of his legs were resting on an embankment, while the rest of his body was in the water.

The man was clothed and did no appear to be homeless, police said.

Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
