CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Ernie Banks was celebrating his 80th birthday with a big party on Saturday.

Banks turns 80 on Monday. To honor the legendary Cubs star, Gov. Pat Quinn has declared Saturday Ernie Banks Day in Illinois.

Banks — known as Mr. Cub — was planning to celebrate his birthday with friends, family, celebrities, politicians and media at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse in the River North neighborhood.

Before the party, Cubs owners Laura Ricketts and Todd Ricketts and Caray’s widow, Dutchie Caray, planned tributes to Banks. Representatives from Caray’s restaurant said that, later in the evening there would be toasts and a birthday cake.
