Daley Pushes Again For ‘Common Sense’ Gun Laws

CHICAGO (WBBM) – In what could be his last major news conference on the subject, Mayor Richard M. Daley made a strong push for passage of what he’s long called “common sense” gun laws.

As WBBM Newsradio 780 Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, Daley gathered elected officials, clergy, activists, and the families of people killed by gunfire, to call on the Illinois General Assembly to approve several gun control measures.

He again called for an assault weapons ban, a background check for private gun sales. New proposals include one that would increase penalties for anyone who points a gun at police, firefighters or other first responders.

Last year, the handgun bans in Chicago and Oak Park were rendered unenforceable by the U.S. Supreme Court in the ruling on the case McDonald v. Chicago. The City Council quickly passed the new ordinance to replace the gun ban, which ordinance limits gun purchases to one per month, bans gun shops in city limits and prohibits gun owners from stepping outside their homes, even onto their porches or garages.

Daley says he is not deterred by the ruling.

“Nothing is easy in life, so you forge ahead,” Daley said. “Especially the people you hurt, who lost their loved ones, you think they’re going to give up? You think they’re going to give up because some congressman or senator or some judge rules the other way? They’re going to be in the fight for the rest of their life.”

First comment about the writer. You state that the Chicago ordinance prohibits gun owners from stepping outside their homes, even onto their porches or garages. The moron mayor would praise God if that were true. This idiot is so against guns, not his black constituancy which is responsible for 90% of the gun crimes, just guns. No, this is America and the 2nd Amendment guarantees us, the citizens of the United States and of Illinois the right to own firearms. No, it is not the law abiding citizens that one needs to worry about, it is the bad guys. My god how stupid is Daley and the rest of his stooges? We, ARE NOT, going to allow our rights to be infringed. We are actually going to push for Conceal Carry here in Illinois. Daley, shut up, retiree and crawl back in your hole and disappear. I already stopped an attempted break to my home with my now LEGAL handgun. When someone is crawling through your office window and you have a gun pointed at them, they tend to sh!t their pants and bail in a hurry. I did not have time to even dial 911 before the window was already open. You protect yourself the way you want and I will protect myself with my 9. I wish more law abiding citizens were as intelligent as many of you on here. We need to push Conceal Carry thru Illinois. Once again, contact your state representatives and politely tell them you want their support for Conceal Carry. You would think that the citizens of Chicago would be intelligent enough to realize that their aldermen already have the right to own a handgun. Is an Alderman any more important than the average Joe or Jane? I don’t think so. Well, not according to the constitution of the United Sates of America. But once again, most schools stopping teach those civic lessons years ago, so the majority of people are ignorant of the facts.

Daley’s been proposing “common-sense” gun laws for thirty years now. He has yet to do anything that reduces crime.

Gun control laws don’t reduce crime (Chicago is the proof) or make us more safe, they make us less safe and they increase crime. Chicago has the most gun control laws and the most crime.

Richard Daley and Rahm Emanuel are incompetent liars. If guns are so bad then why does Daley have armed bodyguards ? Does he really think only he deserves the benefit of gun possession ? Does he really think the cops are better than all others and only they can be trusted with guns.

We know he vacations in Michigan where everyone can have loaded guns in their pockets in public. We also know he plans to retire to Florida where all Floridians can carry concealed loaded guns in public.

Whenever he is spotted the spotter should report his location (on the internet) so that the public always knows where he is at all times. We don’t want him benefitting from gun possession after he leaves office.
