Police: Woman Caught On Tape Choking Child, Charged With Abuse

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Northwest Side woman has been charged with assaulting a toddler after she was caught on a secretly installed camera choking and shaking the girl in her high chair.

Andrea Aguilar, 31, of 2610 W. Berwyn Ave., was charged early Thursday with aggravated battery to a child, police said. She had been employed since March, 2010 as a nanny by the parents of the 15-month-old.

The parents installed the camera after the child's behavior became increasingly withdrawn and the parents noticed several bruises, police said.

Video taken on Feb. 18 showed Aguilar violently choking and shaking the toddler as she sat in her high chair, according to a police report.

The child was bruised on her back, and her parents took her to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Aguilar has allegedly admitted to the abuse, according to the report.
