Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car In Elgin

UPDATED 03/11/11 10:17 a.m.

ELGIN, Ill. (CBS) — A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday morning on busy U.S. 20 in Elgin, police said.

About 4:20 a.m., a pedestrian was struck by an eastbound brown Ford van while the person was walking on U.S. Route 20 between South McLean Boulevard and U.S. Route 31 in Elgin, according to Elgin Police spokeswoman Sue Olafson.

The pedestrian, whose age and gender was not immediately available, was killed, Olafson said.

CBS 2’s Kris Habermehl reports eastbound U.S. 20 was blocked between McLean Boulevard and Route 31 in Elgin. The westbound side remained open.

All lanes reopened about 6:25 a.m., Olafson said.

A spokeswoman for the Kane County coroner’s office said they were notified but no further information was being disclosed at 10:10 a.m.

Its very unfortunate that the first thing u think is negative thinking. It was no1 fault in this matter. It jus god plan so if u fell the need to blame someone then I challenge u to try the lord.

Wow Cutie, your comment isn’t so Cute! Where is the consideration for his family. You are so quick to BLAME! Try being quick to PRAY!!! You must not have any children of your own. All he was doing was taking a short cut home like a lot of people have done in the past on route 20. I am a friend of his mother and if I was her, I sure wouldn’t want to see a comment such as this. It was just an unfortunate accident. God called him Home. Just respect that.

I used to cut across rt 20 when I was a kid in the 80’s
And have seen it alot now days. who hasn’t takin a short
Cut before. I don’t think anyone is to blame
Just a accident. Yes the young man isn’t supposed
To be on highway. I guess you can blame
Him but hasn’t he already been punished.
    Accidents happen. RIP Sir
