Couple Awakens With Ex Standing Over Bed With Knife

TINLEY PARK, Ill. (STMW) - A southwest suburban couple awoke Saturday to find the wife's former girlfriend standing over their bed with a kitchen knife and telling someone by cell phone that she'd probably be going to prison for murder, the husband told police.

Jamie Katro, 32, of 406 Cayuga St., Joliet, was arrested and charged with domestic battery, Tinley Park Police Cmdr. Pat McCain said Tuesday.

The couple had agreed to let Katro stay overnight at their apartment because they were going to take her to a secretary of state's office Saturday for help getting the title to her car, McCain said.

But the couple got a rude awakening at 6:40 a.m. when the man heard a noise and saw Katro standing near the bed with a knife.

The wife, 27, tumbled from the bed during an ensuing struggle between the husband, 30, and Katro, McCain said. The knife fell to the floor and the wife hid it in a closet, where police later found it, police said.

The husband suffered a small cut to a finger, McCain said.

The wife told police she formerly had a relationship with Katro, McCain said.
