Buddy Ryan Diagnosed With Cancer

Buddy Ryan helped lead the Chicago Bears to one of the most dominant seasons in the history of the NFL. And according to a report, the Bears' former defensive coordinator has been diagnosed with cancer.

Rex Ryan, Buddy's son and current head coach of the New York Jets, told the New York Daily News that his father was diagnosed "a couple of weeks ago," and underwent tests and received a second opinion at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan on Tuesday.

"He's 80 years old, but he's doing great," Ryan said to the paper when talking about his father who actually turned 77 last month. "He's tougher than (s---). He's had other things in his life. He overcame encephalitis. He's overcome cancer twice. He's tough."

Ryan didn't specify the type of cancer his father was diagnosed with, but seemed to be handling it well.

"It's going to take more than this to get rid of him," he told the paper. "That's what he always says."
