Keady: ‘Illinois Is A Better Job Than Purdue’

After a lot speculation, Purdue head coach Matt Painter will remain the team’s head coach. He had met with officials from Missouri about taking the same position for the Tigers.

If Painter had left Purdue, the school’s search for a head coach could have excluded one person, Illinois’ Brice Weber.

“He may leave,” former Purdue head coach Gene Keady told the Chicago Tribune, “but he’ll never go to Purdue from there.”

The reason Weber wouldn’t leave for Purdue is simple.

“Illinois is a better job than Purdue,” Keady said. “You’ve got a better recruiting state.”

State of Indiana has better basketball talent, but it doesn’t matter Weber can’t even recruit within the state of Illinois now. Weber would fail anywhere he went.

Its not even debatable who has better talent. Illinpois produces more NBA players and division I basketball players. Its fact. California and New York have produced more NBA players. IOf midwest states even Ohio and Michigan produce more NBA players than Indiana. I’m pretty sure Indiana isn’t even in the Top 10 as far as talent. Now if we are talking passion and great places to play then Indiana is up there.

It’s highly debatable as to which state has better talent, but after a third straight top 15 recruiting class the “Weber can’t recruit” line is old news. Whether he has a grip left on this program- or if he’ll thrive again now that a senior class of personalities that were anathema to his is gone- remains to be seen.

I do not see where you get “third straight year top 15 recruiting class” but it doesn’t matter, there is more talent leaving the state then staying here. But you are right, it doesn’t matter if they did stay here, Weber can’t coach them…..and yes, the senior class personalities is weber fault.

Keady missed this one badly. Indiana has better talent than Illinois and I don’t believe it is really that close. The problem was Keady couldn’t win any of this embattles against IU. Check the Rivals recruiting rankings and you will see many more Indiana kids on there than Illinois kids.

than how come Illinois produces double the amount of NBA players and more than double the amount of division I players?
