Nine Charged In Street Brawl

OAK LAWN, Ill. (STMW) -- An Oak Lawn man was charged with aggravated assault, and five other adults and three teenagers were charged with mob action after a street fight in the southwest suburb on Sunday night during which several gang members wielded baseball bats and sticks, police said.

The fight took place at 9:40 p.m. near 95th Street and Massasoit Avenue, police said. The fight likely was gang-related and may have been the result of graffiti that was disrespectful to a gang, police said.

Several of the combatants ran into a house in the 9600 block of Massasoit when police arrived.

A stun gun and other blunt weapons were found on the porch of the house, and a golf club was found on the front lawn, police said.

Police searched the house and found a metal sword, a wooden sword, brass knuckles, a rifle BB gun, a stun gun, a metal pipe, cans of red and black spray paint, a manual of gang commandments and a list of gang members, police said.

Oscar Medel, 19, of the 8700 block of S. Stevens Drive, Oak Lawn, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance, police said. Witnesses told police Medel drove his car onto the lawn of the house on Massasoit before fleeing when police arrived.

Police said they found steroids and gang-related drawings during a search of Medel's room.

Those charged with mob action included Jonathan M. Reynoso, 18, of the 9500 block of S. Massasoit Ave., Oak Lawn; Carlos A. Macedo, 18, of the 6200 block of W. 90th Place, Oak Lawn; Travis W. Delisle, 19, of the 4500 block of W. 89th St., Hometown; Noe Lara, 18, of the 4500 block of W. 89th St., Hometown; and Nicholas D. Gonzalez, 18, of the 9000 block of Mathers Ave., Chicago Ridge.

Two 16-year-old boys from Oak Lawn and one from Bridgeview also were charged with battery, mob action and criminal defacement of property, police said.
