Man Falls Onto Red Line Subway Tracks

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man who might have been drinking fell onto the Red Line subway tracks at Chicago Avenue in the wee hours Tuesday.

Around 1:55 a.m., the 55-year-old man was on the platform for northbound trains at the Chicago and State Red Line station when he fell onto the tracks, according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.

Power was turned off temporarily to the tracks as Chicago Fire Department personnel removed him from the tracks. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Perez said. The man had complained of leg pain at the scene.

Power was shut off between the Grand and Clark/Division stops.

The fall was accidental, according to preliminary reports.

"It appears (the man) may have been drinking," Perez said.
