Car Hits Bus, Light Pole On Belmont Avenue

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A CTA bus was hit by a car, which also hit a light pole, on Belmont Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood Wednesday morning.

The westbound No. 77 Belmont bus was hit by the car at 6:12 a.m., officials said. The car in turn hit a light pole at the corner of Belmont and Francisco avenues, directly across the street from Kuma's Corner restaurant.

Chicago Transit Authority spokeswoman Kim Myles said the car was trying to go around the bus.

No one was seriously injured in the crash, but police had to block the right lane on Belmont Avenue, officials said.

CBS 2's Kris Habermehl warns that drivers should take it easy and increase the interval between cars in the wet and slippery weather Wednesday morning, whether on the interstate or a surface street.

Also Wednesday morning, a car slammed into the broad concrete viaduct over the Kennedy Expressway at Ashland Avenue and Cortland Street. Details of that crash were not immediately available.
