By Matt Abbatacola–

CHICAGO (WSCR) Game 3 in the series was postponed due to the forecast of rain the rest of the afternoon and throughout Wednesday evening. The game has been rescheduled for Monday, June 27th at 1:20 p.m.

Looking ahead, the Cubs begin a seven games in seven days road trip starting tomorrow in Arizona. Today’s starter, Casey Coleman, is projected to start Game 4 in Arizona on Sunday. It was a projected start for last night’s losing pitcher, James Russell. Mike Quade, pitching coach, Mark Riggins, and GM Jim Hendry will discuss options for Monday’s start in Los Angeles.

On another note, starting pitchers, Andrew Cashner and Randy Wells continue to work their way back to the rotation. They are in a throwing program of soft toss and have reached a distance of 90 feet. According to Quade, they are “on schedule,” although that schedule has not been made known. He even said if they need to rehab in Mesa, the team would leave the two pitchers in Arizona on this upcoming road trip. Both pitchers feel “good.”

  • SPAULDING!

At what point can we speculate that Kosuke Fukudome has earned the right to be called
“Mr. Hitter?” The guy can buy himself bath mats in the shape of first base, and it wouldn’t be bragging.

Cubs hitting has a lot of role players. More than I can think of in a couple of in a few years.

I’m really starting to question Quade and his handling of this pitching staff.

Why start James Russell? We have Thomas Diamond and other minor leaguers who are already stretched and can come in and pitch 6-7IP rather than just 4IP. Its now obvious we’re probably going to need at least another 2-3 more starts. Why disturb our starting rotation?

Why start Russell and Coleman back to back? Why not try and use this day off and start Dempster against Arizona on Thursday and then start Coleman on Friday. It will break up the tandem of having to have two weak pitching options pitch back to back.

    • Jake from da Burbs

I mean why disturb our bullpen… by moving Russell in and out of the rotation and moving Stevens up and down the majors and minors.
