Cook County Honors Couple With 'Royal Wedding'

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A royal wedding of a sort also took place in Cook County this morning, courtesy of Cook County Clerk David Orr.

After 10 years of dating, Mathieu Gervais and Nandika Doobay made it official. They were also the first couple in Cook County to say ''I Do"--hours after England's Prince William and Kate Middleton did so.

And Orr honored them with an extra special marriage ceremony at Cook County's Vital Records department.

"I was shocked and really happy," said Doobay. "It's a lot more than I expected to happen today. It's made it really special."

Brad Gentert and Jamie Kempinski are two weeks away from the big day, but Orr thought the royal wedding was a great day to honor the first couple applying for a marriage license.

"I didn't get ready at all this morning," said Kempinksi.

"We would have dressed up a bit more," said Gentert.

Both couples cut into a three layer Eli's cheese cake with the top layer being a biscuit cake, which is Prince William's favorite. Eli's is also sending them a cheesecake every year on this date to commemorate the royal wedding.
