Jenny Craig Tops Consumer Reports’ Diet Rankings

CHICAGO (WBBM) — With all the diet plans out there, which work the best?

As WBBM Newsradio 780’s Regine Schlesinger reports, a new survey is ranking the diet plans.

The winner this year in the Consumer Reports study is Jenny Craig, commercial program that combines portion-controlled prepackaged meals with personal counseling. “Seinfeld” actor Jason Alexander is the latest pitchman for Jenny Craig.

Consumer Reports’ Nancy Metcalf said the rankings took into account nutrition, weight loss and dropout rates.

“The bottom rated diet was the Atkins diet, with the low-carb diet, as it has been every single time we’ve done this study,” Metcalf said.

According to the survey, Jenny Craig easily outranked Weight Watchers. But that program’s Karen Miller-Kovach doesn’t buy it.

“The evaluations are based on, the literature is based on science that doesn’t necessarily reflect real-world results,” Miller-Kovach said.

Weight loss experts say the best diet is the one with which you can stick.

    I agree that it does work and is fantastic for losing the weight, IF you can afford the food every week and can keep it up when you move back to “real” food.

    I’ve been on a low-carb diet for about five months now and am down about 45 lbs. Not sure where they are getting their research from, but once you break away from simply eating bacon and eggs, it really opens up. Have a little self-control, get creative, and you can really make a decent meal for yourself. Hell, I just had lemon-pepper cod with spinach balls which were made with flaxseed meal and … well, spinach. Basically, this is simply a promotion for Jenny Craig.

    I’ve tried every diet from vegan, to the ‘healthy’ whole grains and lean meats, while leading an active lifestyle. Hell, I was even running 50+km/week and weightlifting 4 times a week. I kept putting on weight with all of these diets except a low carb one, the key is I have diabetes in my family and the optimal strategy was to cut the sugar (carbs are sugar too).
