City’s Signs Change To Read ‘Mayor Emanuel’

CHICAGO (CBS) — Only about an hour into Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s term, the signs on the Chicago Skyway were being replaced with his name.

SLIDESHOW: Mayor Emanuel’s Inaugural

WBBM Newsradio 780 reports Chicago Skyway officials replaced the overhead sign that drivers encounter upon entering the city from Indiana. It now reads, “Rahm Emanuel, Mayor,” replacing “Richard M. Daley,” mayor.

Chicago Department of Transportation officials said they had heard signs were also being changed at Midway and O’Hare international airports.

Emanuel was sworn in around 11:25 a.m. Monday.

Change the signs to read Mayor Rahmulus.

Glad I don’t live in Chicago. Rahm is no better for Chicago than Dailey was.

  • Chicago

Chicago is glad you don’t live here too.

  • What?!?

I’m pretty sure that people driving on the Skyway could care less who the mayor of Chicago is. They are more concerned with matters at hand, like the traffic, etc.. As shoib said, this is money wasted. Signs like this just stroke a politicians ego.

Now the city is fakakta for sure!

People remember, Chicago and the State don’t own the Skyway anymore. The city isn’t paying for the signs. We will be paying for it when tolls go up again.

It is an outdated way for a politician to get some name recognition…remember, all the cook county forest preserve signs had the board member’s names on them, that would often need replacing…until they woke up and did away with that silliness. If something is publicly financed through taxes, it should not have a politician’s name on it (such as John Stroger Hospital)…just like on the Skyway, the toll money comes from the commuters who choose to use it. If anything, it should read “The people of Chicago welcome you”…just a thought.

Now that we have an israeli citizen for mayor will the signs be in hebrew?
