CHICAGO (CBS) — Four suspects attacked a landscaper during an armed robbery and fatally shot him as he was leveling soil Friday afternoon in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The incident happened about 1:45 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Talman Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Phillip Armstrong.

A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office was notified of the death, but had no further details available.

The victim was a landscaper working in a rear yard leveling soil when he was confronted by four men wearing dark clothing and hoodies, according to News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. Police later said the victim was 18.

One of the suspects shot the man, and they all fled the scene.

“It appears this occurred during the course of an armed robbery,’’ said the officer.

It was not known if anything was taken.

This is insane! My heart and prayers go to his family. Crime is everywhere and getting worse it seems, but one thing is certain: Chicago is no longer a place where I feel safe even to visit. Rotten apples come rolling into the downtown area now, creating havoc. It’s time to leave.

This is all the more reason why you need a conceal-carry law. The police cannot be everywhere at once, and the law-abiding citzens needs to be able to defend themselves. Pat Quinn just vetoed a conceal-carry law, and the reason he did it is because he has full-time bodyguards and doesn’t have to worry about getting robbed.

Quinn didn’t get a chance to fulfill his promise of a veto on HB148, for it didn’t attain the 71 House votes needed to send it to the Senate.

Not that his promise to veto the legislation helped matters, and he is about as clueless as a Governor can be.

Please join the Illinois State Rifle Association as they work diligently for favorable gun laws here in the communist state of Illinois. Rally other like minded “law abiding citizens” to band together and take back Our 2nd Amendment Rights. I, for one, will not become a victim of crime. It is good to see other like minded Americans who care and will fight for our rights.

A 15 year old kid was shot on the NW side this morning for no reason, too.
The good guys and the normal “get-the-job-done” neighborhoods are are being out numbered more and more by the sub humans. Maybe the wackos are finally correct about the event they predict for tomorrow. Might not be a bad thing.

There is crime everywhere you go in Chicago and other large metro Cities. It is a shame when people throw race in the middle of a sad occasion such as this. A man lost his life, I don’t care about his race or the race of his attackers. I feel for the family and my prayer goes out to them. I happens to know this area very well and attended High School in the area, and I don’t feel safe. My 20 year old son was shot and killed by a White Male due to mistaken idenity. My son was in his 3rd year of college and has never been in trouble. I was not upset because of the males color, I was upset he shot my son for no reason. I hope they catch the guys who shot this man and give his family justic like I received. For once, lets keep race out of a sad incident like this! Crime has no color/race
