MIAMI (CBS) – Former Chicago Bears running back Garrett Wolfe was arrested early Sunday in Miami.

According to Miami-Dade County booking records, Wolfe was arrested for retail theft, disorderly conduct, assault of a police officer and resisting arrest. Wolfe, who had spent the past four seasons with the Bears, was jailed on $11,500 bond.

Wolfe, who played college ball at Northern Illinois University, was drafted by the Bears in the third round in 2007. He played mostly on special teams during his time with the Bears, who did not offer him a contract this offseason as a potential restricted free agent, making him an unrestricted free agent when the NFL lockout ends.

I went to NIU with the guy. He was exciting to see play at NIU while he set all sorts of records. He was truly lucky to have been drafted by the Bears and to have remained on the Bears as long as he has.

That said, he’s an f–king idiot for getting himself into trouble. The Bears ought to cut him as a message to others but that will never happen. Not in this country, where sports athletes are put on pedestals and called heroes.
