CHICAGO (WSCR) Chicago White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez has been named the American League Player of the Week for the week ending on May 22.
The 29-year old had a .417 batting average (10-for-24) with six doubles, nine runs batted in and a home run. Ramirez led the American League in RBI, while coming in second for slugging percentage (.792) and fifth in on-base percentage (.481).
His best game of the week came on the week’s final day, when he posted five RBI and four hits in an 8-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
This is the first Player of the Week honor that Ramirez has received.
