CHICAGO (CBS) – The pavement caved in on Cottage Grove Avenue in the Kenwood neighborhood Tuesday morning, prompting an emergency response and reroutes of a city buses.

Police and crews from the Streets and Sanitation Department were sent to the scene of a street cave-in in the 4500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

The hole — which is 6 feet wide and 7 feet deep — is located on the southwest corner of the intersection, Kubiak said.

The CTA rerouted the No. 4 Cottage Grove Avenue Bus, according to Chicago Transit Authority spokeswoman Kim Myles. No. 4 buses were being rerouted to Drexel Boulevard between 47th and 43rd streets.

By about 9:45 a.m., those reroutes had ended, Myles said.
