Moonlight Swim At Belmont Harbor Proves Deadly

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A moonlight swim to beat the heat proved deadly overnight at Belmont Harbor.
Shortly after midnight, emergency crews came to the harbor and found the man unconscious, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.
Emergency responders were told the man had been sitting around with a friend near the harbor when he decided to go into the water, Langford said.
Crews discovered the man under 10 feet of water, at the bottom of the harbor after the friend pointed out to crews where the man was last seen, Langford said.
The man, identified as Jorge Martinez, 55, of the 1800 block of South Loomis Street, was pronounced dead at 1:04 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

The water temperature was in the 50s early Wednesday, Langford said.
Responders were told Martinez and his friend may have been drinking, Langford said.
