Aunt Charged After Boy Is Found Walking Alone At 4 a.m.

MONTGOMERY, Ill. (CBS) — A woman from far west suburban Montgomery faces charges, after her 3-year-old nephew was found wandering the streets in the middle of the night.

As WBBM Newsradio 780’s Debra Dale reports, Alicia Burgess, 26, has been charged with endangering the life of a child in the Thursday morning incident.

Police found the 3-year-old boy walking alone in the area of Fernwood and Douglas roads in Oswego around 4 a.m. Thursday, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s office.

The child was able to lead deputies back to his aunt’s house around the corner in the 0-99 block of Sonora Drive, the release said. Police allege the child had been left alone and that Burgess, his aunt who was supposed to be watching him, left the residence.

Burgess was arrested when she returned to the hose about half an hour later. Police arrested her, and the little boy was turned over to the care of his grandmother.

What if the house caught fire and this poor little boy was killed or a robber broke into the house and hurt him? What a stupid move. Hope she’s NEVER responsible for another child and I’m glad they removed him and placed him with his grandmother. Hope this is a wake up call for his mother, too. Be careful who you let watch your children.

Fire? Robber? How about hit by a car or drowned in a drainage ditch along the road. Douglas is a very busy street out there.

    Miracle nothing happened!

What a selfish woman, probalbly needed smokes or was drinking at a neighbors house. What a loser, hope she never has kids.

Maybe she ran out of crack rocks and had to go make a quick score.

  • FR

What if she was sleeping and the kid wandered out. Oh, aren’t parents or guardians allowed to sleep?

I think I’m more inclined to believe the running out of crack rocks theory. It makes the most sense.

FR read the story- the police went back to the house (mispelled in story) and waited 1/2 hour for her to return. She left for some reason and I doubt it was to get diapers, co co puffs, or the latest sponge bob movie. Can’t buy booze @ 4 AM so i would concur that she was up to no good and obviously did not have the childs best interest in mind.

Where is the child’s mother and/or father?

    • Terry Bransen

They’re probably smoking those crack rocks. It’s all good though, the boy is with his aunt. Typical !
