Firefighter Hurt At Extra-Alarm Blaze On South Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A firefighter was injured Tuesday afternoon while battling an extra-alarm blaze that gutted a South Side building.
The fire broke out around 4 p.m. in a 2-1/2 story home at 8347 S. Phillips Av., according to a Fire Department spokesman.
The blaze was eventually raised to a 2-11 alarm fire.
No one inside the building was hurt, but a firefighter was injured while at the scene and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment. A Fire Department spokesman said the firefighter was in "stable" condition with minor injuries.
The fire was put out by 4:35 p.m., although it gutted the building.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
