CHICAGO (CBS) — A rash of shootings overnight left one man dead and five more wounded, in several neighborhoods on the city’s South Side.

Errol P. Grant, 24, lost his life to gunfire in an incident near Rainbow Beach Park around 9:40 p.m. Monday.

He was approached by several men who fired shots and struck him, and was found on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head in the 7800 block of South South Shore Drive, police said. Grant was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

In a second incident, three men were shot while standing on the sidewalk in the Washington Heights neighborhood. At 11:55 p.m. Monday, two men walked up to the group in the 9000 block of South Marshfield Avenue and opened fire.

All three men were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. One man, 32, was shot in the chest and remained in serious condition early Tuesday.

Also injured were a 19-year-old man shot in the arm and a 37-year-old man who suffered a graze wound to the head, police said. Both were in good condition early Tuesday.

Another man was shot at 12:25 a.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood. The 21-year-old victim was wounded in the shoulder in the 11800 block of South Michigan Avenue, police said.

The man was reported in stable condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Finally, a man was shot and wounded in the wee hours Tuesday in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood. The 19-year-old victim was shot in the buttocks in the 7700 block of South Paulina Street at 3:12 a.m., police said.

The man was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
