JOLIET, Ill. (STMW) – An arrest warrant has been issued for a Lockport man accused of molesting a 6-year-old family member, police said.

William A. Smith, 40, of the 15500 block of South Muir Drive, Lockport, was charged Friday with predatory sexual assault of a child, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and aggravated battery of a child, Will County records show.

A Will County sheriff’s spokeswoman said the victim, a female relative who does not live with Smith, said he abused her May 28 while he was caring for her at his home.

The girl said Smith molested her, slapped her on the side of her head and choked her, the sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

The warrant calls for him to be held on $1 million bail once he’s arrested.
