CPS, Groupon Partnering To Provide School Supplies

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Groupon is partnering with the Chicago Public Schools in a new program to provide students with school supplies.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Dave Marsett reports, the program, called Kitz for Kids, will be offer $12 for a kit that includes folders, pencils, glue sticks and notebooks.

The kits are available from Tuesday through Thursday through the daily e-mail from Groupon, and at Groupon.com/Chicago, the <a href="http://www.suntimes.com/6684628-417/cps-groupon-partner-to-get-kids-school-supplies.html" target="_blank"Chicago Sun-Times reported. They will also be distributed at neighborhood festivals and back-to-school events from Tuesday through Thursday.

Chicago Public Schools communications chief Becky Carroll tells the Sun-Times that the goal is for all the kits on order to be used by students.

Of the more than 400,000 CPS students, school officials say more than 85 percent come from low-income families and more than 15,000 are homeless.
