UPDATED 08/05/11 1:43 p.m.

SUMMIT, Ill. (CBS) — An Illinois State Police trooper was injured Friday morning in a crash on the Stevenson Expressway.

CBS 2’s Kris Habermehl reports the accident happened in the 6 a.m. hour on the inbound Stevenson just past the 1st Avenue bridge.

The trooper was inside his cruiser when it was rear-ended by a car.

The trooper was able to walk after the accident, albeit slowly.

Soon after the accident, first responders and supervisory personnel arrived to secure the trooper on a stretcher so he could be taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

The red Honda Civic that hit the State Police cruiser sustained front-end damage. The car and its driver remained at the scene after the accident.

The driver of the Civic, Steven Skarnulis, 22, was not hurt and was able to drive away from the crash, state police told the Sun-Times Media Wire. He was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

By 1 p.m. the trooper had been released from Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

How is that relevant to what happened? What, you want to stop by his house and give him flowers? It’s called none of your business.

I wish the very best for the IL State Trooper and God Bless his well being.
