Four Teen Girls Hurt In NW Side Wreck

CHICAGO (STMW) - Four teenage girls are hospitalized after the car they were in stuck a light pole early Saturday in the Avondale neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The crash occurred at 3:37 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.

An 18-year-old was behind the wheel of a Toyota Scion that was southeast-bound on Elston when she lost control and the car hit a traffic light pole at 2801 W. Belmont Ave., according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.

Mirabelli said a 15-year-old passenger who suffered a broken leg was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center while two other passengers, 19 and 18, were taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center.

Fire Media Affairs put the condition of the 15-year-old at critical, while the two at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center were in serious condition.

Parts of the intersection remained closed for at least an hour after the crash as police investigated.
