WHEATON (CBS) — A west suburban man has been charged with killing his father with a weed trimmer as he slept early Sunday.
Yashesh S. Desai, 21, of Plover Court in Woodridge, is charged with first-degree murder for the death of his 47-year-old father Sanjiv J. Desai, a release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office said.
About 3 a.m. Sunday, Woodridge police responded to the home after getting a 911 call from Desai’s brother telling authorities that Yashesh Desai had just killed his father.

Sanjiv Desai was suffering from massive head wounds when emergency crews arrived. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Prosecutors allege the elder Desai was sleeping on a futon in the computer room of his home when Yashesh Desai struck him multiple times in the head with a weed trimmer, resulting in severe trauma to his head. Yashesh Desai was arrested at the scene.
He faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted.
