Boy, 15, Shot In West Woodlawn

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 15-year-old boy was shot in the back overnight in the West Woodlawn neighborhood.

Police said the boy was standing outside around 9:15 p.m. Sunday in the 6500 block of South Rhodes Avenue.

Police said the teen was standing outside when someone jumped from a gangway and fired numerous shots, striking him in the back.

The boy told police he heard the noise of the shooting and felt pain right afterward.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County where he was listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the back.

The teen, a student at Julian High School, 10330 S. Elizabeth St., is expected to survive, police said. He has no criminal history.

No arrests had been made in the shooting as of early Monday, police said.
