CHICAGO (STMW) – A Far South Side man has been charged with the slaying of a man shot Aug. 27 outside his West Englewood neighborhood home, police said.

Police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety said Arther White, 31, of the 13200 block of South Langley Avenue, was charged with murder. Baety said White was arrested at his home after a warrant from the fugitive apprehension unit and a joint task force was issued.

Beaty said White also goes by Arthur White.

White is accused of shooting a man identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as Elroy Williams in the 1200 block of West 72nd Street on Aug. 27. Williams died the next day.

About 10:40 p.m. the night of the attack, Williams was walking outside in the 1200 block of West 72nd Street when someone approached him on foot and opened fire, striking him in the abdomen, a statement from police News Affairs said.

Williams, 31, of 1238 W. 72nd St., was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:20 a.m. on Aug. 28, according to the medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Aug. 29, determined that Williams, who was shot at 1245 W. 72nd St., died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
