At Least 4 Garages Set On Fire In Rogers Park

UPDATED 09/14/11 2:01 p.m.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Someone set fire to several garages and vehicles late Thursday in two Rogers Park neighborhood alleys, and police are looking for the culprit.

Emergency crews responded about 11:30 p.m. to the 2000 block of West Chase Avenue, after someone saw a male suspect lighting garages on fire in an alley, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

No one was hurt, but at least four garages were damaged, Alfaro said. Five vehicles were also damaged, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The Tribune added that in the alley a block north behind the 2000 block of West Jarvis Avenue, someone found a rental truck parked in the alley that had also been lit on fire.

The suspect had fled by the time crews arrived and was not in custody as of early Wednesday, Alfaro said.

Witnesses said a man or boy had set the fire, but no further description was available, the Tribune reported.

Detectives from the police Bomb and Arson Unit were called in to investigate, Alfaro said.
