Aurora Police Consider Charging Booking Fee For Suspects

AURORA (CBS) -- Getting arrested in Aurora could soon cost even more.

Officials are considering slapping a $50 booking fee on suspects taken into custody.

The police department says it actually costs about $66 to book a suspect and takes two officers off the street for about an hour.

Believe it or not, but Aurora officials say some suspects with outstanding arrest warrants come to Aurora to get arrested to avoid a booking fee in other towns.

Other towns that charge a booking fee include Downer's Grove and Oswego.
