Report: Cicero Payroll Loaded With Town President’s Wife’s Family

CICERO, Ill. (CBS) — Cicero Town President Larry Dominick campaigned on a pledge to end nepotism, but now, a published report says he has put his wife and at least eight of her relatives on the public payroll.

As WBBM Newsradio’s Regine Schlesinger reports, the Chicago Sun-Times says Dominick married his third wife, Elizabeth, in December 2006, and she and her relatives began working for the Town of Cicero afterward.

They have worked in capacities including town employees, board members, and vendors, and have been paid $1.1 million in total, the newspaper reported.

Wife Elizabeth, a nurse, is in charge of the Cicero Town Health Department, and makes more than $70,000 a year, the Sun-Times reported. She has complained publicly that her salary is too low.

One of her sons was appointed to the Cicero Housing and Real Estate Board and later became a Cicero firefighter, and another son was appointed to the town Identity Theft Board and has worked as DJ for town events and as for a town basketball camp, the Sun-Times reported.

Meanwhile, one of Elizabeth Dominick’s sisters was appointed to the Board or Health, another sister and nephew got full-time posts, and two brothers also got town jobs – one of which earns $80,000 a year, the Sun-Times reported.

Also hired was nephew Joseph M. Terrana, a convicted thief who became a town garbage man, the Sun-Times reported. He was forced out of his job two years ago, but was re-hired as a part-time driver for a $12 hourly wage earlier this year, the Sun-Times reported.

Town President Dominick has been the subject of other controversies in recent weeks. Last month, the Sun-Times reported that the FBI taped Dominick in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former Cicero town animal shelter operator Sharon Starzyk.

Starzyk alleged that Dominick sent her smutty text messages and groped her, including one incident in which he “grabbed a breast (and) passed some gas” before getting out of the car at an animal rescue site, the Sun-Times reported.

I’m SHOCKED! SHOCKED I SAY that there’s any corruption in CICERO!!! I’m SO SURPRISED!!!!!……NOT!!!

  • Jake Gittes

    Forget it, Adam. It’s…Cicero.

  • one of da guise

Whadda ya mean corruption? Da guy wuz tryin ta take carre-a his feeyamily! What’s wrong wit dat?

  • ChicagoCitizen

I missed the part of the story where one of the people that were hired weren’t doing their job up to standards. If they all are doing a good job, then what’s the problem? If you have a hand full of jobs to fill, why wouldn’t you give the jobs to competent people that you already know? I don’t see a problem.

    • The Voice fo Truth

You must be a relative of Todd Stroger. Sounds like you are his spokesperson.

      • bigdeal

This guy is worse than Todd Stroger

  • tom sharp

Who wants to bet that CC is a patronage brat him/herself? Every time a blog points out patronage abuse, corrupt cops and politicians he/she is right there defending them!

    • ChicagoCitizen

Tom, I am entitled to my opinion just like anyone. Did you even read and understand my comment? If the people show up every day and do their jobs, what’s the problem? Why give a job to someone you don’t know, when you have competent people that you already know, looking for work? It’s all about who you know. This is how the entire world works. As long as it’s not abused, I don’t see a problem!

      • Marty

BECAUSE THERE ARE most likely people who are more qualified than your limited inner circle of inbreds. MORON.

      • tom Sharp

Your way may work in private business (although it often doesn’t), but in the “public sector” where taxpayers’ money pays for these jobs–nepotism and patronage are verboten! You must apply for public sector jobs and be judged qualified via objective measures. The most qualified get the jobs not the cousins, wives and kids of the mayor!. There is no proof whatsoever that these people are competent or as good as people passed over. If you think Cicero is a well run model of efficiency, you are beyond hope. This idiot Dominick s more corrupt than Maltese who went jail. This is the 21st century and a democracy, not medieval Europe. If you see nothing wrong with your stand, your the nitwit not everyone else commenting on this blog. Wake up

    • Guy at Work

I agree. CC sounds like someone’s nephew.

  • Enough is Enough

the Italian Todd Stroger or is it the African American Larry Dominick

  • george

a non story…. why would anyone with an I.Q. over 10 be surprised by this… business as usual… i love this country….

  • Ismael Martinez

It’s up to the people of Cicero to throw Larry Dominick and His entire family out of office. They might not even show up for work but get a full check. (just guessing)ChicagoCitizen there are lots of people more qualified than Larry’s family, they just didn’t have a chance to apply.

  • Centurion

AT least we know that Larry Dominick is not part of the Cicero Dept. of Physical Fitness.

AS far as Starzyks situation, serves her right for getting involved with a fat grotesque lardball like Larry. She wanted to be wife number 3, she wanted that power trip in Cicero.

  • Marty

    Stupid does as stupid is.

  • g-man

King Daley was doing that for over 20 years and yet the news did not say anything about it !!!!! But now this little town guy does it just a little and the news treats it like it is the crime of the century !!!! Sounds like a double standard form the liberal minded media
